How to read a G Gradual size chart

1,270 rows of measurements across 194 pieces, and not one of them follows a US standard.

Brand size is not US size. A G Gradual "L" is a row in a table the vendor wrote, and the row shifts between listings. The men’s basketball shorts put 48.5 inches under 4XL. A women’s legging tops out at 37. Same brand, same site, different tables.

Measure the garment you already own

Lay a pair you like flat, measure the waistband from side to side and double it. That is the number to look for in the Waist column. Do the same across the chest of a shirt that fits. Comparing garment to garment beats comparing your body to a chart, because you already know how much ease you like.

Across the whole catalogue the charts run from a 20 inch waist on the smallest youth piece to 58.7 inches at the chest on the largest men’s top. If your number sits between two rows and the fabric has elastane in it, take the smaller row. If it is 100% polyester with no stretch, take the larger.

Tops are measured at the chest, bottoms at the waist

Some charts list both. A men’s tee will show Chest 41 to 58.7 inches and a Waist column in the low fifties, which is the garment hem, not your belt line. On this site the chest or bust column is what we quote for tops and the waist column for shorts, pants and skirts, so the number under the picture matches the part of you that has to fit through it.

Ten listings argue with themselves

A title that says 9" golf shorts sitting above a chart whose Inseam column reads 11 is not a typo we introduced. The vendor reuses one chart across several lengths of the same style. We found ten of these and left both numbers visible with a note on the page, because guessing which one is right would be worse than showing the disagreement.

On skorts the mismatch is not a mistake at all. An 18 inch skort with a 4.5 inch inseam means the skirt is 18 inches long and the shorts underneath are 4.5.

What the extra columns mean

Thigh circumference tells you whether the leg will bind when you sit. Leg opening tells you whether the hem will catch on a shoe. Rise, when it appears, is the distance from crotch seam to the top of the waistband: under 4 inches sits low, over 5 sits high on most people. Sleeve length on the men’s charts is measured from the shoulder seam, not from the neck.
